Plastic pipes can crack and old cast iron can corrode where it is closest to the wall. Water then discharges directly against the masonry without an obvious front-facing leak.

Check the bottom as well as the pipe

A blocked gully or poor connection can make water spill at ground level. Low external saturation beside the wall can then produce a damp pattern that resembles rising moisture.

Staining can continue after repair

Masonry that has been repeatedly soaked takes time to dry. If salts have moved into internal plaster, cosmetic symptoms can last even longer.
