Rising moisture is tied to the base of the wall
A genuine rising-moisture pattern normally begins at floor level and diminishes upwards. Salt contamination and deterioration of low plaster or skirting may accompany it.
Heating changes one but not the other
A warmer wall surface and lower indoor humidity can reduce condensation quickly. They do not remove a ground moisture supply passing through masonry.
Do not use mould as an exclusion test
A room with rising damp can still develop condensation on a cold corner. Treat each moisture pattern on its own evidence.
